You’d think I’d have learned by now. I see how it’s done. We all do. Snappy click-bait titles. Grab ’em with sex. Grab ’em with sensational problems. Grab ’em with sure-fire solutions. Grab ’em with outrage. Slap some yellow and blue onto the outrage and throw in some atrocity porn and watch that shit go viral, baby. Stand back and rake it in.

I see how it’s done. I’m not doing it.

Not because I’m a better writer than that (although I am) and not because it’s beneath me (but, yeah, it is).

I’m not doing it because it bores the bejesus out of me.

At some point over the past three years, two thousand eight hundred and nineteen people clicked that darling green “follow” lozenge on some story I wrote. Conventional wisdom and the all-knowing experts have it that I should be directing each piece towards them. My “audience”. I should find my niche. Preferably one that my two thousand plus followers like to follow. I need to focus and give the people what they want.

Nope. Not doing it. Not even sorry.
