So would I! Her son (I’m guessing he was her son by the way she addressed him) was huge and quiet. I found myself wondering about their lives and what hers had been like there.
My partner’s family came over from Ukraine and Austria after the war and he grew up in Alphabet City, learning to speak English in kindergarten at St. George’s elementary school. At that time, the early ’50s, that part of town was more European than American.
