Seduced in Sacramento

Me? Behind the wheel of a car? Sure looks inviting!

Just to be clear, yes, I am that tiresome woman who is constantly railing against car culture. That’s me. I’m the one who keeps hauling out her soapbox to perform fiery oratory against the evils of cars. I’ve been known to slam my hand (hard) against the rear fenders of offending SUVs cutting lights close…and giving my poor partner heart attacks.

Yes. Me. Totally, 100% car-hating me.

But over the last two days of our recent trip out to the other coast, I found myself seduced by a Volkswagen Taos mini-SUV, of all things.

What the everlovin’ F???

I never gave a lot of thought to cars as a kid. Daddy was a mechanic, so the second-hand cars he always drove always ran. And living first in semi-rural upstate New York and then small-town Ohio, cars were a necessity. In most of this country, if you don’t have a car, you may as well not have feet or functioning legs. You are going nowhere.
