Super secret location of at least one clean restroom in NYC
It’s who you know in this world and it’s your good luck to know me. Or at least to know me enough to have started reading this ultra-helpful guide to one of the most difficult-to-find treasures in New York City: a clean bathroom.
The more astute travelers among you are already pointing out that the New York City Parks Department’s website includes an exhaustive list of hundreds of public bathrooms that are available in the hundreds of city parks in the five boroughs. It’s quite a list. And helpful, no doubt. But it’s damned little use when you’re stuck in midtown and need to pee badly.
Although, insider tip: The public bathroom at Bryant Park is deluxe and, as Neil would put it, “girl clean”.
Here’s the thing, though, within less than a month of moving to this city you’ll already have begun your own internal database of other bathrooms that are quickly available when you’re nowhere near one of the parks. It happens. There are the bathrooms at Burlington Coat Factory in Union Square, for example. Not particularly clean, but sometimes you can’t be picky. And Trader Joe’s always has bathrooms.
