Chill. “Decent” Joe’s Not Forgiving All Student Loan Debt

Since when did so many people start believing campaign promises?!

It was an interesting conversation we had the other night. Several of us had logged on early for our weekly Zoom get-together and the topic at hand turned to student loan debt. I currently have somewhat less skin in this game than at least one of the others in the conversation. I’ve whittled the $93k I had at graduation down to less than $16k in — count ’em — fifteen years.

“Why are you still paying on that?” from one of my friends.

“Yeah!” another chimed in (who just earned his Ph.D., btw), “Biden’s going to forgive all that shit.”

Sidebar: This is really how my friends talk, even the ones with Ph.D.s

My Zoom screen showed several nodding heads.

Excuse me? How old are you people anyway? How many election cycles have you lived through? How many campaign “promises” have you seen actually fulfilled?

I’ll wait.
